Ruth's PC
Topic: work
After several weeks and several instances of hangs, I decided to change the CPU fan, and asked Ruth to obsserve it.

I hope it's not the motherboard that's causing the fan to shutdown.

Spent about 15 to 20 minutes all-in-all, including hunting down a replacement fan.

MetThinkPad
Topic: work
Finally finished reinstalling it (except Metermate, etc.). Installed OpenOffice after the OS, plus WinPM.Net. It took 3 working days because of the OS Patches, and I was working on something else while reinstalling, so there were several times when something's finished and just waiting for user confirmation/input but I wouldn't see it immediately because of my other task.

VBDP
Topic: work
Learning DB Programming in V B is fun!

I've asked some students from a local university about their CS thesis and they provided me with their "topic" and now I've been developing it myself, based on their very RAW and INCOMPLETE prototype.

Because of their help, my learning DBPVB has been placed on a fast track and I can now say that I am confident enough to do DBP in V B., although I still have a lot to learn (mostly the finer points and performance tweaking, plus customization and code reuse).

Have been enjoying myself thoroughly in this that I've missed posting entries in this, my work blog, for the past few weeks. :-)

Greenville PC
Topic: work
Spent 4.5 hours:

1. Cleaning the inside of the Casing (even opened up the power supply to clean it inside)

2. Installing the O.S. and applying the latest patch

3. Installing various essential software.

I am not sure if there are some things that need to be done for it to be restored to its working state.

Studying SQL, Linux, etc.
Topic: work
Took up studying again on SQL since November, but it's very slow-going.

I need formal classes for this.

Also, I researched about the free Novell/SuSE Linux certification, but I think I may not be able to take it for lack of time to study. :-(

I hope they realize soon that I should get due credit for my SysAdmin work for the past 10 years which I did excellently WITHOUT formal education on administration. Where else can they get someone like me?

They keep on promoting those who do clerical jobs which don't require much thinking, much learning and keeping up to date.

The PC still can't see the server. I "re-crimped" the plug at the switch end, and voila! Problem solved.

Radio Room PC
Topic: work
Finished cleaning it THOROUGHLY. I opened up the PSU and unscrewed the board and fan, cleaned out the black dust.

Removed the drives and add-on PCI cards and cleaned them, too.

Opened up the CD-ROM drive and cleaned it out, including the lens.

Couldn't open up the floppy drive, though. No hope for that one. Besides, we don't need it.

Replaced the original Planet NIC, though.

I tested it using DPP's station and it's working. Have to replace it back in the radio room later. I hope there's no more cable problems. :-)

Took me about 2 hours.
